European APRS Guidelines
This page contains guidelines on maximising the capacity of our European APRS network (144.800Mhz).
The information here is mostly based on the European recommendations posted by Bob Bruninga - WB4APR and the extensive discussions taken place on ui-view@yahoogroups.com
-
WIDE and WIDEn-n Deprecated
WIDE and WIDEn-n are no longer required on the APRS network and should be disabled in your digi setup and removed from your unproto path
-
Home Stations
Set your unproto to APRS,TRACE3-3 (UI-View Style)
Home stations should only be RELAY digi's
Unless they are in a DX location; or are providing the only link between two or more DX digis
-
Mobiles
Universal path for mobiles is RELAY,TRACE2-2 (Kenwood / TinyTrack 3 Style)
-
IGATEs
Universal path for IGATEs is APRS,TRACE1-1 (UI-View Style)
IGATEs which spew out lots of traffic are killing our network.
IGATEs should be mostly passive; perhaps just sending out beacons/messages for local (<30 miles) stations who are not on RF.

Display Radio Coverage
ARPS supports through the use of PHG the ability to give an indication of radio coverage. Through the use of APRS PHG text and the add-on UI-PHG you can display these coverage circles on UI-View
To include this information in your station use the PHGR calculator then update your details in station set-up as per the example below
You may need to tweak the PHG (ant direction and height) to give a better indication of your radio coverage
